FAQ
Custom Gold Coins — Common Questions
Everything you need to know before ordering your gold coin. Still have questions? Talk to a gold coin specialist.
What is the difference between solid gold and gold-plated coins?
A solid 24K gold coin is made entirely of pure gold — its value is anchored by the metal weight itself, and it carries lifelong intrinsic worth. A gold-plated coin has a brass or zinc-alloy core with a thick layer of 24K gold electroplated on top. Plated coins look identical to solid gold on the surface and last decades, but cost a fraction of the price — ideal for larger runs, employee recognition programmes, or corporate gifts where value-for-money matters.
How much do custom gold coins cost?
Solid 24K gold coins are priced based on the current spot price of gold plus minting craft — a 38 mm × 3 mm solid gold coin weighs roughly 25–30 grams. Gold-plated coins are far more affordable and start at a modest unit price that drops with quantity. Every quote we issue is itemised: tooling, base material, plating, enamel, engraving, and packaging are all line-by-line.
What is the minimum order quantity?
There is no minimum. We mint single solid 24K gold coins (perfect for executive gifts or unique commemoratives) and gold-plated coins from a single piece up to 100,000+. Production scales naturally — single pieces use embossing or photo-etching, runs of 50+ are die-struck.
How long do gold-plated coins last?
Our 24K gold electroplating is applied at industrial thickness — significantly thicker than fashion jewellery plating — so it resists tarnish, scratches and wear for decades under normal handling. Stored in their presentation case or capsule, plated gold coins look essentially new generations later.
What sizes are available for gold coins?
We produce gold coins from 10 mm (small pendant-sized pieces) up to 120 mm (large presentation medallions). The most popular sizes for corporate awards and commemoratives are 38 mm, 45 mm, and 50 mm in diameter, with thicknesses of 3–5 mm.
Can you engrave names, dates or serial numbers on each coin?
Yes. We engrave names, dates, recipient initials, sequential serial numbers and edition marks (e.g. "12 of 100") on either the edge or the reverse face. Perfect for limited-edition releases, retirement gifts, and personalised executive awards.
How long does production take?
Standard production is 20–30 business days from when you approve the free design proof — solid gold takes slightly longer due to the casting/striking process. The proof itself is delivered within 24 hours of your enquiry. Rush production is available for tight deadlines.
Do you offer a free design proof?
Yes — every enquiry receives a free professional digital design proof within 24 hours. Unlimited revisions are included until you approve the final artwork. No charge, no obligation.
How are gold coins packaged for delivery?
Every gold coin ships in a hard, UV-protective acrylic capsule by default. On top of that, we offer velvet pouches, hinged satin-lined gift boxes, engraved wooden cases, and acrylic display stands — all customisable with your logo or a personal message. Shipping is fully tracked and insured.
Do you store the dies for future re-orders?
Yes. We store your tooling and dies for three years at no extra cost. Future re-orders ship faster and at a lower per-unit cost — useful for ongoing executive gift programmes, annual awards, or limited-edition series.
